The digital change in traditional consulting professions

The digital transformation, as the working title for the changes in the digital economy reads, is making its way through all industries at an ever faster rate. Corporations have created their own departments to face change. But how do companies react that do not have the resources to deal with the challenges on a daily basis?

What has changed?

Let’s take a look at how the classic professions have already changed. That gives an outlook on what every entrepreneur can do to stay competitive. Basically, digitization is nothing more than an opportunity to simplify processes and accelerate them massively.

Furthermore, the entrepreneur or his customer should have as few problems with the processes as possible. It is technically standard that bookkeeping is only posted fully automatically with scanned documents.

Remote connections replace the initial meeting with the client and webinars make specialist knowledge from consulting available to a large number of participants. Is it therefore justified to ask whether there will be no more tax and management consultants in ten years’ time? Why should the customer still have to deal with annoying final discussions and introductions in the law firm when it can be digital?

Support instead of replacement!

Anyone who continues the conceptual construct will quickly find that the beautiful digital world cannot do one thing: create content! The human mind enables premonitions to be made based on experience and judgment, rather than existing data. So it is above all a question of adapting the process and less of the content.

Of course, internet research makes it possible to read oneself on certain topics as a loan in such a way that, for example, self-representation in court would be possible, but is the client willing to take this risk and spend the appropriate time? Therefore, the traditional professions and their entrepreneurs should write one thing above all else: user-friendliness.

What can be regulated by email and remote control should also be regulated in this way. Such a way of working usually only requires a small investment, and the benefits for both sides are enormous. There used to be appointments that didn’t have to be kept and postponed. Electronic file management and email contact allow the entrepreneur to decide for himself when to devote himself to a topic.

Personal conversation remains irreplaceable

Thus, in the future, professional training should also be supplemented by research in the context of digitization. A personal conversation is irreplaceable, especially when it comes to topics that require a lot of explanation, such as extensive business advice.

The question, however, is which parts of the process can also be implemented digitally. Is the prospect or the new client given the chance to get brief and concise initial information on the Internet? Anyone who discovers objective weaknesses there can easily get help.

Win new customers through recommendations

Another elementary point is the acquisition of new customers. The more explanation the service requires, the more fragmented the market and the more referral business there is. Especially because there are often no objective assessment criteria for potential new customers.

More and more platforms have therefore made it their task to enable an objective formation of opinion. What is already standard among dentists and general practitioners will sooner rather than later affect the consulting professions. So what should the lawyer do if he has only worked on recommendations so far? He has to deal with the issues as if he were starting all over again.

 

See yourself as a startup!

How was it back then in the first years of your career? What can i do today See yourself as a startup and start all over again. This automatically results in new ideas and approaches that can release incredible strength and energy. It starts with

  • to check whether your own website is still up-to-date, or
  • to see if I can even be found on the Internet under the terms that are relevant to me.

If that is not the case, I have a todo that I can tackle. The principle of the university lecture applies:

Digital transformation: if not now, then when?

Many entrepreneurs see no added value for themselves in positioning themselves on the Internet. This is the opportunity! If you use this intellectual head start correctly, you can benefit from hundreds, mostly thousands of search queries on the net, month after month.

What should the business consultant do first? Which tasks are the most important? The only useful advice that always applies: just start! Maybe just use one new technical option for your next mandate.

If it works well for both sides, then expand it to the entire company. Whether lone warrior or large partnership, all that counts is speed. The sooner I deal with the topic, the faster I can open up new business areas and increase my profit through efficiency.
